With two Juno
nominations and six solo albums to his credit, Danny Michel is one of
the finest and most charming songwriters to grace the stage. His honest
and straight-forward lyrics, earnest live performances and witty stage
banter have earned him a devoted global fan base. If you’ve seen Danny
live in concert, you’re probably already a fan. If you haven’t, you are
missing out on “One of this country’s undiscovered musical treasures.”
Toronto Star
Danny Michel has been busy since his last stop in Winnipeg.
2011 has seen Danny tour his home province of Ontario then head off to
gig in Germany. After Germany, he’s been to Holland then back to Canada
with stops in Alberta. Danny played at David Suzuki’s 75th birthday party
in March (also appearing in a Suzuki music compilation) and after a trip
to Spain he will head out for his Vancouver Folk Festival performance
and travel back across country for shows in Nova Scotia. Danny then makes
his appearance in Winnipeg at the West End Cultural Centre on October
1st, sure to have stories and songs about his adventures.
When armed with a band, Danny can blow the roof off any venue, but it’s
his solo performances that get his fans really excited. His 2010 album
“Live in Winnipeg” (recorded over 2 sold-out nights at the West End Cultural
Centre) catches Danny in his element: the unpredictability of his one-man
live show. He slips into any genre with ease, playing off the energy of
the crowd. The spontaneity and disarming sincerity of Danny’s live shows
are endearing and exciting to witness.
“There are 4 – 5 places that are extra special for me to play in and
the WECC is one of them. Every time I am there, it feels like a home town
gig,” Danny comments.
