Oh My Darling is releasing their sophomore album Sweet Nostalgia at the West End Cultural Centre Saturday November 5th.

Sweet Nostalgia was recorded in a straw-bale house in Roseisle, Manitoba, with a group of great musicians and friends. After a series of avalanches, some made of snow and some metaphorical, Oh My Darling took time to reflect on the things that mattered most. Taking pieces of the past, music and experiences, Sweet Nostalgia was born. The album is produced by Juno Award winning roots music troubadour Steve Dawson, and engineered by Don Benedictson.

In 2011, Oh My Darling’s first European tour saw the band play 52 dates in 60 days in support of their debut album, In the Lonesome Hours. The band played festivals and venues in Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland and the UK, ending the tour playing in front of thousands for the Canada Day Trafalgar Square celebrations in London, England with Blue Rodeo.

Oh My Darling appeared on the Winnipeg Folk Festival main stage for the first time in 2011 in addition to hosting and playing on the folk festival side stages.
Formed during a frosty Manitoba winter, in 2008, Allison De Groot, inspired by groups like Uncle Earl, asked her friends Vanessa Kuzina and MJ (Marie-Josée) Dandeneau to put together an all female old time band. Looking for a fourth who could play fiddle, Allison’s step-dad called a bluegrass band-mate from the 1970s, which informed him that her daughter played fiddle. Rosalyn Dennett was brought into the mix, and the music making began. They soon realized that Vanessa had a great talent for song writing, and MJ had a tendency towards unconventional bass lines and harmony, so the idea of a traditional band began to fade into the background in favor of a more contemporary sounding repertoire. Their prairie roots mixed with bluegrass, Appalachian old time, southern twang, and Franco-folk, makes their style a melting pot of musical languages.

Their self-titled debut EP was released in 2009, and honored with a Western Canadian Music Award for Best Roots Album. In 2010, they recorded their first full-length album with renowned producer Lloyd Peterson (Wailing Jenny's, James Keelaghan). In the Lonesome Hours received a WCMA nomination, and earned rave reviews in the media. It also topped the national campus roots charts in 2010, making Oh My Darling the 14th most requested band on Canadian campus radio. The band has recently released a cover of Tina Turner’s What’s Love Got to Do with It.

"With a high degree of enthusiasm, a boundless energy, and a lot of heart and soul, this quartet offers an exciting mix of roots, Americana, bluegrass, Appalachian old-time and country, which guarantees not only great recordings, but also something that works perfectly live."
