SongScape is a collaborative production between local youth, Winnipeg singer/songwriter Greg MacPherson and Winnipeg visual artist Sharon Johnson. Over the course of spring break, youth will meet with the Greg MacPherson who will discuss several original songs, the writing process, and the inspiration for the songs. Sharon Johnson will lead the youth in a brainstorming session. The youth’s ideas, their thoughts, and impressions about the songs will be explored and used as a starting place in the creation of a visual component to accompany Greg’s music. The second step will have the youth and the Sharon enter the West End Community with cameras and video equipment to capture images of the city. These images will then be used to inspire and create a framework for the creation of a collaborative group production that will be presented alongside a public performance of the original songs discussed at the beginning of the program. This presentation and performance will take place at the West End Cultural Centre on Monday April 12.
