February 28th, 2012 marks the release of The Wooden Sky’s new album Every Child a Daughter, Every Moon a Sun. The band will be embarking on a tour to support the album, including a Winnipeg date at the West End Cultural Centre on Thursday, March 29th, 2012.

The album was partly written during a winter band retreat to a cottage near Georgian Bay in Ontario. "Everyone had their eyes and ears open searching for new textures to play with" explains lead vocalist, Gavin Gardiner. This mindset resulted in a productive session, as the frontman notes, "What began as a simple collection of nine songs quickly ballooned into an 18-song opus; 13 songs ended up making the record. It did come dangerously close to being a double album."

The album was largely cut at Montreal's famed Hotel 2 Tango studio with Howard Bilerman and Radwan Ghazi Moumneh. Additional recording was also done in various homes, churches and farms.

The Wooden Sky is a Canadian indie folk rock band based in Toronto, Ontario, that formed in 2003 as Friday Morning’s Regret, but changed their name in 2007. They trace their roots back through the winter of 2003, when with a collection of songs under his arm, vocalist Gavin Gardiner began to seek out musical collaborators to help bring his sketches out from the bedroom and onto the stage. It was soon after the first snow fall that Andrew Wyatt and Chris Cocca joined Gardiner and began to flush out ideas that would become their first EP. With new fulltime and moonlighting members, Simon Walker, Anissa Heart and Andrew Kekewick, The Wooden Sky’s debut LP Lost at Sea was originally released in February 2007 to a sold-out Horseshoe Tavern. The band has drawn comparison to such modern acts as the Great Lake Swimmers, Neutral Milk Hotel and Okkervil River.
