Yukon Blonde and Library Voices return to the WECC on March 24th for a double bill of raucous rock and roll fun. Both bands have exciting news to announce as well as new music (and for Yukon Blonde, a new album) to perform for the first time to a Winnipeg audience.
Vancouver four piece Yukon Blonde sign to Dine Alone Records for new album, prepare to release Stairway 7” inch single on January 31st in advance of highly anticipated sophomore LP.
Yukon Blonde is poised to reinvent itself once again. Despite the success of the group’s previous material, the musicians were initially uninspired when they set about writing like-minded new songs. Instead, the members were drawn to the fast, punk-tinged tracks that Frontman Jeff Innes had been penning in his spare time. Danceable and unrepentantly poppy, these new tracks evoked late-’70s/early-’80s post-punk and drew inspiration from artists like the Buzzcocks, Ramones and Talking Heads.
2011 was a massive performance year for Yukon Blonde. Along with wrapping up a 62 show North American tour behind their recently released Fire//Water EP while also playing festivals across North America while touring with Plants & Animals and The Fling, and shared the stage with the likes of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeroes, Dawes, Josh Ritter, Elliott Brood and more.
The BC quartet is now getting ready to introduce the world to their next release: Stairway 7”. The first single from their forthcoming sophomore album - a song called Stairway, brightly elevates the band's surging arrangements, and is sure to whet the palettes of fans both old and new. Slotted for release on January 31st, Yukon Blonde’s Stairway 7” will also include a B-Side, home-recorded DEMO version of a future album track called Radio, which assaults the speakers with a brash stomp worthy of early Elvis Costello. Melodically contrasted with one another, both songs on the Stairway 7" hint at the range of paths sonically taken with the band's sophomore LP, which will be available on Dine Alone Records in early 2012.
Library Voices, the perpetually recording and touring septet, are loading up their van again to cross Canada and the U.S. -including a stop at SxSW this spring. The tour begins March 8 in Fargo, ND. On March 24, Library Voices connect with label mates and friends, Yukon Blonde in Winnipeg and the acts continue to travel together until April 27, when they share the stage at Vancouver's Commodore Ballroom. All dates are in the continued support of their critically revered sophomore album, Summer Of Lust released in August 2011.
