Melodies on Mercredi, the West End’s new music series will premiere in February 2010 featuring original music from Winnipeg’s foremost young singer-songwriters.
On the first Wednesday of each month Winnipegers will be invited to listen to live music in our new Assiniboine Community Hall acoustic space. On these special nights we will also celebrate the opening of a monthly art exhibit by local professional and youth artists. It is the perfect opportunity to experience home grown talent in an intimate setting for a low price of $5 per ticket. Pudding will be available for purchase.

Featuring art by the students of John M. King
And the music of Devon Bate and Jonny Moonbeam
Devon Bate is an eclectic songwriter, born in and out of the Information Age with a background of physics, secular biblical studies, a platonic hedonism and a widespread musical training. His style is a self-proclaimed marriage of Sonic Youth playing Neutral Milk Hotel covers, fronted by Bob Dylan with Radiohead as the spectators thinking it's the next best thing: a kind of post-punk folk Devoncore.

He has done work for film (a documentary by L-Word star Kate Moennig), performed across Canada and done a variety of radio work. He is currently obtaining a Communication Studies undergraduate degree at Concordia University in Montreal.
Samples of Devon's work can be found at myspace for some of his relatively recent recorded material, as well as youtube for a remix we can all dance to as well as a couple music videos to his name.
One of Winnipeg's busiest and most versatile musicians, Jonny Moonbeam is a man of many passions. Leader and bass player of Winnipeg’s premier Motown band the Retro Rhythm Review, Guitarist/Songwriter and front man of original project (and Jazz fest regular) Jonny Moonbeam and the Lunatics, Drummer at the U of M Faculty of Music Jazz Program and for numerous local acts (Romi Mayes, Les Voyous, Jessee Havey), this Lunar Lad is a regular performer on the illustrious Winnipeg live music circuit. Melodies on Mercredi will be one of the first live appearances of a new original project featuring Moonbeam as well as Erin Propp, Alex Campbell, Gisaya Gahungu and Daniel Peloquin-Hopfner.
