CKUW 95.9fm, Stylus Magazine and The University of Winnipeg Archives are proud to present a demonstration and celebration of the new Stylus Archives at the West End Cultural Centre on November 5th.
CKUW 95.9 FM donated its entire back catalog of Stylus magazine to the University of Winnipeg Archives in 2025. The Archives partnered with CKUW to apply for a Manitoba Heritage Grant to digitize every issue of Stylus dating from its first issue in 1989. As Stylus is Canada’s second oldest independent music magazine the Stylus archive is one of the most significant resources on the history of independent music in Canada.
November 5th will feature performances by Prairie and Vav Jungle, a demonstration of the new Stylus Archive and a discussion with former Stylus columnist Jay Flores who wrote the column “Mental Notes” for years.
This is a can’t miss event for those wanting to learn more about the 90s and early 2000s of Winnipeg independent music and a celebration of the work the bands, artists and Stylus contributors did to build and document the scene.
