Carly Dow

  • West End Cultural Centre (map)

Carly Dow's wildcrafted soul-folk blends dark and poignant writing with an "incomparable voice that is raw, alluring and unique" (Vies Mag). Weaving image-rich lyrics with strong songwriting on clawhammer banjo or guitar, Dow creates music that is magnetic and multi-layered, evoking comparisons to the likes of Gillian Welch, Amelia Curran and Abigail Washburn.

"9/10 - Dow is a talent. There is nothing, not a chord or note that you won't really really love." (Americana UK)

The depth and space of her home province of Manitoba seep into her songs, and much like her own stage presence, Dow’s music is quietly captivating, confident, and illuminating. Flirting the line between pretty and gritty, this music has it all.

Ingrained, released in May 2015, is "a living, breathing album with sweeping arrangements..." (Stylus).  Love, loss, sensuality and environment are themes carefully crafted throughout the recordings, making for a smart album that is both timeless and relevant. Ingrained is Dow’s debut solo studio recording and joined the National Top 10 Folk/Roots/Blues charts for several weeks upon its release.
