“And just as the sun disappears under the water, the whole world...goes dark.”

Winnipeg’s leaders in fresh and new theatrical creation, One Trunk Theatre and Walk&Talk Theatre, are partnering up to bring their innovative and whimsical forces together in a new work by Ben Townsley: Blink. Inspired by radio plays and the beauty of the end of the world as we know it, Blink is a guided meditation gone wrong as the sun sets, a city slides into the sea, and we stumble through life in the dark.

“Theatres around the world have been shuttered due to the pandemic. It has forced creatives to rethink their process, and performers to reimagine their relationship with audiences. As artists, we haven’t given up on theatre we have simply reinvented how you will experience it with Blink- from the comfort of your own socially distanced tent, and in your own imagination.”- Andraea Sartison, Artistic Producer, One Trunk Theatre

One Trunk and Walk&Talk are setting up camp at the West End Cultural Centre for 2 physically-distanced, but thematically intimate, live performances. Audiences can book individual tickets, or tickets for their cohort. Any tickets booked together will be assigned their own tent, on the floor of the theatre where you and your pod can camp out and listen to the live reading of the comedy-drama Blink featuring top Winnipeg actors performing in duet with live and recorded sound effects.

“What is Blink? Well...you’ll be taken on a journey through the world in-between your ears...Beach Town. Where you spend your holidays, and workweeks...and...well...everyday...ANYWAYS you’re going to meet the residents of Beach Town! Your neighbours! Weird...you haven’t introduced yourself up until this point...maybe we’ll have to talk about that later...SO who would you like to introduce yourself to first- the Anglerfish Princess at the bottom of the sea, or the Sun? Blink is a journey into my own mind’s eye. We are very excited to be premiering it in such a strange time, as it gives One Trunk and Walk&Talk a chance for our companies to keep creating, and employing some of the industry’s hardest hit workers- performers.”- Ben Townsley, creator and Walk&Talk company member.

In keeping with theatre’s new foray into digital mediums, Blink will also be made available on all podcast streaming services for audiences after the event to listen and re-listen to their favorite parts- the whole play is divided into tracks that can be experienced separately or as a whole. Eager listeners can search up “One Trunk Theatre” wherever they listen to podcasts.

Winnipeggers know One Trunk Theatre for their massive-multidisciplinary works such as Red Earth and I Dream of Diesel (both presented by Theatre Projects Manitoba) that have reached and engaged a large crowd of new and tried-and-trued theatre goers alike. And audiences might recognize Walk&Talk from their beloved Fringe hits like The Ballad of Johnny Boy and The Headliners - known for their aesthetic of blending musical and physical theatre in imaginative landscapes.
