Volunteer Newsletter March 13 2024

Did we do it? Did we save the daylight? I hope you all managed the time change better than I did. Just remember—we get more evening sunshine now! That means it will be nice and bright when you arrive for your volunteer shifts. Now on to the volunteer news for the week!

It’s Almost Here - WECC Fun-Raiser on March 23!

We’re hosting our very own fundraiser on Saturday, March 23! There will be a 50/50 draw and a raffle, including prize baskets from Little Brown Jug and Prairie Sky Books! All proceeds go towards the WECC’s annual operations and programming.

Tickets can be purchased online here: https://www.wecc.ca/events/240323/fun-raiser

USE PROMO CODE “VOLUNTEER” FOR 50% OFF TICKETS FOR THIS EVENT!

We look forward to seeing you there!

Wanted: People to join our bartender team!

Do you meet the following criteria?

 · Have volunteered with the WECC for at least one year

· Volunteer regularly or semi-regularly

· Enjoy being busier during volunteer shifts

· Can work on your feet for most of a shift (there’s usually time to sit when it’s quiet)

· Are good with money-handling

· Are comfortable with basic, user-friendly computer technology

You might be a great fit for out bartender team!

The LCGA’s Smart Choices certification program consists of 8 modules that take approximately 10-15 minutes each to complete (that’s two hours total). At the end you take your Certification Test and if you pass (75% or higher grade), you can serve alcohol at our events! The certification is personal, so it belongs to you, not the WECC. If you’d like to use it to serve alcohol at another volunteer gig, or take up a part time job, you’re free to do so!

As the purchasing system has been restructured, we ask that you pay for the course yourself ($26.25 including tax) and send us the certificate and receipt once you have completed the course. The WECC will reimburse you for the cost of the program and you will then be able to bartend at any of our events.

As you may have noticed, there is almost ALWAYS a callout for bartenders, when we need more people for a shift, and there are fewer bartenders than there are general volunteers, so if you’re interested, we’d love to have you join the team! The course can be purchased and accessed here: https://smartchoicesmb.ca/products/responsible-service-certification
